ABOUT IDLEWIND ACRES
A farm.A lifestyle.

Idlewind Acres began as a retirement plan. Neither of us wanted to wait that long. A weekend farm was the next idea, until we realized that the farm we wanted would need us there full time.
So we bought an old farmhouse on 40 acres in Michigan and moved in.
Gardening had already become my escape from a demanding career as a lawyer. At our old house in the woods, I made the most of a small patch of sun with raised beds, boxwood hedges, fruit trees, and flowers. The farm gave those interests room to grow—and made room for the animals I had always wanted.
Today, the gardens, livestock, and horses shape our days. We raise heritage breeds, including Red Poll cattle, and work to make the different parts of the farm support one another. The animals feed the soil, the garden helps feed the animals, and there is always another project waiting.
Idlewind Acres is also home to the Rural Revival Journal, where we share the gardens, horses, food, homes, and style that interest us. Our idea of luxury is a country life shaped by lasting quality, beautiful materials, and things we love living with. Classic English country, French country, and Italian country influences inform our approach to timeless European style, from interiors and the table to the garden and an equestrian wardrobe.
We found a life we wanted to start living. We’re still making it our own.
